General FAQ's

Who is the iTalk service for?

Anyone who wants to save money on their phone bill. All you need is a broadband connection!

Does iTalk work when my computer's off?

If you’ve got Voice Box or a Budgetone phone, then yes. If you’ve got a Softphone then no.

Can any broadband customer get iTalk?

Yep, as long as they’ve got an NZ residential billing address and a credit card.

Do voices sound clear through VoIP technology?

They sure do. We rallied together some of our iTalk customers and a massive 85% reckoned the call quality was ‘similar’ or ‘better than’ a normal telephone. It can depend on the speed and quality of your broadband, so the faster your plan the better.

Can you receive calls with iTalk?

Yes. Just like the telephone network, you get a phone number, which means anyone from anywhere in the world can call you. And you answer just like you would normally.

Can normal phones work, or just other VoIP phones?

You can call any phone, anywhere in the world. And when you talk to other iTalk customers, the call’s free.

Does iTalk work is there's a black out?

It can, but only if you choose the iTalk Voice Box as your device. That’s because a Voice Box lets you make calls over the traditional phone network if the power goes out. Just remember that those calls won’t be at the regular iTalk rates, until the power gets up and going again.

Can I use my old phone handset?

Yes, but only if you choose to use an iTalk Voice Box. But don’t worry, you can still make calls from the traditional phone network - just dial *00 before the number you’re calling. All incoming calls to your iTalk number and your ‘old’ phone number will ring on the same handset.

Is iTalk easy to use?

Very easy - and we test everything to make sure! All you’ve really got to do is follow our simple instructions for a few minutes, and you’re away. If you still need help, though, there’s always support via our help desk.

Can i port my number?

Yes you can. This can be done via our signup form or by giving us a call. Just make sure it’s not your primary line number or has broadband on it. Porting has a lead time of approximately two business days.
