Slingshot has delivered the best overall broadband performance for the first half of this year by independent body Epitiro, and the recent partnership with Oversi will ensure things only get better for Slingshot customers.
In order to optimise the internet experience, Slingshot has become the first ISP in Australasia to deploy Oversi cache technology. The deployment of the cache is notable because for the first time it will accelerate over-the-top (OTT) content for Slingshot customers; caching will now include peer to peer, video streaming such as You Tube and other media applications. This type of usage represents some of the fastest growing traffic on ISP networks around the world.
General Manager of Slingshot, Mark Callander says “Oversi is a world leader in providing caching solutions and this partnership enables us to continue providing our customers with the best internet experience in NZ. With Oversi’s experience working with major network operators all over the world and the guaranteed improvement in speed for our customers, the decision to partner with Oversi meant we would continue to lead the market.”
Callander continued “the deployment of the cache was a natural step given increasing customer demand for streaming international content. This demand combined with the high cost of international bandwidth capacity meant that the caching was a great solution. Not only have large downloads been accelerated, but peer-to-peer and streaming as well – including HD content. This enables customers to make the most of free downloading periods offered by Slingshot, and ensures that they can have a positive experience during peak times. ”
“During the implementation phase we have worked closely with selected customers and closely monitored feedback, and they just love the increased speeds. We have also made some tweaks to the system that enables customers not to view cached content if they prefer – it can simply be turned on and off as they wish. The customer is in control of the experience they want.”
“These investments have paid off with Slingshot ranking as the top of the broadband provider by Epitiro, and we have also won TUANZ Telecommunications Carrier of the Year – something the entire team is really proud of” concluded Callander.
