MAX Broadband

Please note: To get MAX Broadband you must be a MAX Voice customer.

What do you mean by Full Speed broadband?

Our MAX broadband plans all offer maximum download and upload speeds of up to 10Mb/s. The service is designed so you will get the fastest speeds available when you choose to get online.

MAX Broadband Speed Explained

Broadband speed is usually measured in Kilobits (Kb) which refers to the amount of data you can download in one second. To represent the speed on our Slingshot plans we refer to Megabits (Mb) where 1Mb is about 1000Kb.

For a variety of reasons the broadband connections speeds may vary and not reach the maximum download speeds possible. The following reasons will help explain why this may occur:

  • Your computer and home network - your computer's set up and operating system will affect speed. Remember that if you've also got multiple computers connected with a router they will all share your connection speed.
  • The quality of the wiring in your house can impact the speed of the service.
  • Location of the web site or host site. Downloading from a New Zealand website may be faster than downloading from a site hosted overseas. Also the amount of customers on a web site can influence the speeds you will receive.
  • Time of the day. In peak periods where internet traffic increases, you are likely to experience slower speeds as more people access the internet. This is why we have differing Traffic levels for each of our plans, giving you the option to maintain higher speeds during peak times as your traffic will have a higher priority.

How does my data allowance work?

When you surf the Internet you are downloading (or uploading) data. Data is usually measured in Megabytes (MB) where 1000MB equals a Gigabyte (GB). Broadband plans come with a range of different data options. Obviously the more data a plan has the more you can browse the internet, download music and so on.

Usually when you reach your monthly data allowance you will have your broadband speed reduced to 64Kbps. However with Slingshot you can choose to continue browsing at your specified plan speed by purchasing more data.

With Slingshot you can measure your data usage using your "My Account" section online. This way you can monitor your data usage to ensure that you don’t run out and you get broadband speeds for the entire month.

Are there minimum system requirements?
