Internet diallers are programs that are installed either involuntarily or voluntarily on your computer and they allow users to access premium content on the internet. They work by disconnecting users from their normal internet service provider and instructing the computers modem to dial out on either a 0900 or international toll number. These toll charges then appear on the users’ next phone bill.
They were developed as a more discreet and convenient way of receiving internet content in comparison to being charged via credit card. They can be used to pay for content such as; adult services, music downloads, chat lines, online games, weather reports and much more.
The problem arises when users do not realise that an internet dialler has been installed on their computer. The internet diallers can then instruct the modem to dial out by itself without the users’ knowledge - even configure a computer to turn on automatically and dial without the user even knowing or being around to turn it off!

There are various ways in which internet diallers can be installed on your computer. Most commonly users have to actively click on a link to download a dialler and run it. Many users will then agree to conditions and commence the installation process without reading the disclaimer.
Alternatively, internet diallers can also be sent vial email as attachments. Users can click on the attachment and either knowingly or unknowingly install the dialler.

We recommend you install our Slingshot Anti-spyware security protection. This should detect and remove any internet diallers present. Here are some extra tips that may also prevent the likelihood of unknowingly downloading an internet dialler.
- Do not download unfamiliar email attachments.
- Do not click on unknown links or sites offering free access.
- Disconnect the phone line from your computer when you are not using the internet or when you turn your computer off.
- Increase your internet security settings. To do this go via Internet Explorer, click ‘Tools’ > ‘Internet Options’ > ‘Security tab’ > ‘Internet’ > set security level to ‘high’.
- Place a toll bar on your phone account (Slingshot offers a FREE Smartcode toll bar service).
- Install Virus protection.

Internet dialler charges associated with accessing content on the internet are applied to the account of your phone line provider and will appear on your phone bill. If you have received unexpectedly a charge on your bill it may mean that you or someone else using your phone has accessed this content on the internet. Unfortunately, you are required to pay for these charges so it is important that you take the necessary precautions.
