Slingshot MAX uses a wireless technology called WiMAX to reach your home. It completely by-passes the old-fashioned wire based networks and uses radio signals to transmit and receive information from a small antenna installed on your house to our WiMAX base stations.

Put simply WiMAX enables you to connect to the internet and telephone network without wires. It is a wireless technology that provides an alternative to cable and DSL. A key advantage of WiMAX technology is its ability to provide higher speed connections over a broader coverage range, enabling both broadband internet access and phone services to be delivered over the single connection.

Broadband is a high speed internet connection that allows you to send and receive emails, browse the internet and download files much quicker than standard dial-up - plus your connection is always on! Generally internet speeds greater than 256kbps are defined as broadband which is approximately 6 times faster than a normal dial-up connection. MAX Broadband utilizes leading edge WiMAX technology to deliver a fast, high quality internet connection at speeds up to 10Mb.

Slingshot MAX uses Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology to deliver your smart phone service. The Slingshot MAX adapter coverts your voice into data and sends it over the wireless connection to our phone network. Our network sends the call to its destination and converts it back to voice at the appropriate time. Unlike many other VoIP services Slingshot MAX does not send your call over the internet, ensuring the same high quality of service you get today.

Yes, you will continue to make calls just like you do today, the person you’re calling doesn’t need to have the Slingshot MAX service or an internet connection – they just need a phone. Your joining fee includes two wireless digital phones – when you make or receive a call they will ring just like your current phone does now*.

You can keep your phone number if you wish – all you need to do is select this option during signup and we’ll arrange for your number to be transferred for free.

* You should be aware that during power outages your Slingshot MAX phone will not function unless you have purchased and installed a UPS. You can purchase one from leading computer suppliers.
